Description |
Japanese Tea House with two-tier pagoda lantern at the corner. Wood panels with windows enclose tea room. Grounds are strewn with boulders, young wild trees grow among the rocks; mature trees surround the tea house. Notes: The Tea House was purchased in Tokyo, Japan, shipped to Compton and constructed in the woods near the carriage house (now Widener Education Center) in 1891. It was removed in 1939 by directive of the Arboretum Advisory Board. House parts and furnishings were dispersed to Penn Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art. The tea garden was constructed by K.
