Description |
Compton mansion room prior to demolition. Corner fireplace with decorative tile surround. Single window with panel molding and shutters to right. Closet to right of window. Mantel frieze with carved fluted oval, corbels at each end. Panel pilasters. Notes: Compton floorplan indicates this was small room on second floor to right at back of hallway.Surround tiles designed by William Wise for Minton China Works, Stoke on Trenton, England, circa 1880. Tile series titled "Country Pursuits" depicts young women doing farm chores. Believed to be Lydia Morris's sitting room. Mantel and tiles were salvaged and are in storage. |
