    Mature shrubs encroach on boulder-lined pool with water lilies on surface. Hillcrest Avenue with row of deciduous trees is on horizon. Notes: Te "bottomless pool" garden was created by Sakuji Furukawa and Asataro Kimura in 1902. A katsura tree was planted on right side with a ring of spirea around the pool.

    John Morris is seated on Love Temple steps. Two swans swim toward him. He wears a Panama-style hat and dark suit. Summer c. 1911. Note: Similar to 2004.1.839 of John and Lydia at the pond. Swan Pond was constructed c. 1905. Love Temple was designed by Ernesto Ermete Gazzeri of Rome, Italy, installed at Compton in 1906.

    John Morris sitting on the steps of Love Temple. Two swans are in the pond at bottom of steps. To left of the pond is a decorative balustrade surrounding the rose the garden. Note: Swan Pond was constructed in 1905. The Love Temple, designed by Ernesto Ermete Gazzeri of Rome, Italy, was purchased in Italy, then installed at Compton in 1906. The Summerhouse was build circa 1908 by Pringle Borthwick.
