  20. Founder's Garden Shovel - Garden shovel belonging to John T. Morris This nursery spade was the property of John T. Morris, of Morris Arboretum. It is inscribed with the initials "J.T.M" and shows considerable use. This object is a touch point on the tree planting and plant collection continuum from the 19th century arboretum of the Morris era with the Morris Arboretum in the 21st century. This nursery spade inscribed with the initials "J.T.M." shows considerable use. It was the property of John T. Morris, who with his sister Lydia T. Morris, created the Morris Arboretum as a public garden, research and education institution. The spade is a touch point on the tree planting and plant collection continuum from the 19th century arboretum of the Morris era to the Morris Arboretum in the 21st century. The spade is 39-inches from blade to handle. The widest part of the blade is 8", the narrowest (leading edge) is 5 1/5 inches wide. The blade is 11 1/2 - inches long.
