    Mature leafless Chestnut tree with light snow on ground. The Summerhouse with peaked roof and weathervane is on left; concrete balustrade on far left. Number 29 written in upper left corner. Notes: The 1914 Compton Atlas by Pugh & Hubbard shows this Chestnut tree south of the Formal Garden near vegetable gardens. Pringle Borthwick constructed the Summerhouse in 1908. Number indicates this photo was part of a series.

Notes: The 1914 Compton Atlas by Pugh & Hubbard shows this was a double-trunk tree in the center of the southeast quadrant of the Formal Garden. The Morrises called this tree "The Monarch of the Garden."
