|Title||Compton Overlea 1900|
View from Hillcrest Avenue of Compton and Overlea (former name of Gates Hall).
Notes: Text on reverse of photo: "The face of the photo says 'Compton Overlea 1900' in a hand not dissimilar to John and Lydia Morris.' This would fit since we know that the Balustrade was built in 1899 at the same time as the Fernery (see Daybook 5/1899 and 12/1899). However, the terra cotta racks are not in place in this photo (bought or ordered 7/1899). It is reasonable to assume that this picture is between late 1899 (August or September) and late 1901 when the adjoining site was bought and building commenced. EAC 1/16/84"
